Tying abortion to race for political gain

Pennsylvania’s pride and joy is back, and it is no rehearsal, — former Senator, and now potential Republican presidential contender, Rick Santorum, has the momentary Midas touch on a “whip your hair episode”, to the slightly older set, that translates into,”no he didn’t,” but yes, yes, Santorum did.

During an interview with the Christian Broadcast Network, Santorum spoke of his long held belief that life takes hold at conception, and that melded into an attack on President Barack Obama’s view, which evolved into the color of Obama’s skin. Here, is Santorum’s full excerpt.

“The question is, and this is what Barack Obama didn’t want to answer – is that human life a person under the constitution, (Santorum) went on to say, and Barack Obama says no. Well if that human life is not a person then I find it almost remarkable for a black man to say “now we are going to decide who are people, and who are not people.”

Santorum is making no amends for the linking the two; as the thinking goes abortion is the equivalent of modern-day slavery.

Rick Santorum

For the rest of us, As Robert Sam Siegel put it in his blog, ” pro choice advocates need to understand that Rick Santorum meant what he said when he compared abortion to civil rights, and they need to understand exactly what he said.  This was no gaffe.

Rock The Capital requested an interview with Santorum, to get him to either continue to back or clarify his statement, but neither he, or his presidential exploratory committee advisors returned our call or responded to an email.

Jerome Mondesire, president of Pennsylvania’s NACCP, told Rock The Capital, Santorum’s comment, “is too stupid to deserve my response.”

It’s not the first time Santorum has said something caustic about President Obama, his latest statement though will provoke anger, outrage, and potential support as he seriously contemplates a presidential run in 2012.
