Powers is Out

For weeks, James Powers Jr., (pictured on right),Director of Pennsylvania’s Homeland Security Office has twisted in the wind.

Well, no more – Govenor Ed Rendell says Powers’s will resign. Powers made national headlines when it came to light that his office hired The Institute of Terrorism Research and Response, a private firm, to spy to on environmental groups as well as gay and lesbian organizations.

Several groups have or are in the process of filing federal lawsuits claiming their constitutional rights were violated.

Rendell told the Patriot News, “Jim is a good man who made a very significant mistake in judgment.”

Powers’ last day on the job is October 8th.
