Still no word on what the Senate Ethics Committee will do with its investigation, into Senator Robert Mellow’s questionable behavior.
Mellow is paid handsomely to occupy a seat on the board of Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Eric Epstein, the founder of this website, filed a lengthy complaint with the Ethics Board last February — noting the inherent conflict of interest. Late last week, the Ethic’s Committee notified Epstein that it will “stay” its investigation pending the outcome of a federal inquiry.
The FBI and IRS have been reviewing boxes of documents it seized from Mellow’s home in Peckville and his district office over the summer. Federal authorities have not revealed the nature of that investigation.
Epstein concludes that the Senate Ethics Committee intends to run out the clock – few days remain in the session, and Mellow said he will retire by year’s end.
“This is a retirement gift to Bob Mellow,” said Epstein.
Mellow has not returned several phone calls to his office. Senator Charles McIlhinney, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Official Conduct also failed to return several calls to RTC.
As of this writing Senator Mellow is not facing any charges, but the fact that the Senate’s longest serving member is silent — speaks volumes about behavior that is undoubtedly questionable.
