lvania Senator Robert Mellow is not returning calls to RocktheCapital. It has now been five days since RTC first attempted to talk to Mellow about an investigation in to his questionable relationship with Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
Mellow, is paid to sit on the board of the insurance company, as well as a bank. The Senate Ethics Committee voted last week to “stay” its investigation –seemingly to put it off indefinitely. Mellow, the longest serving Senator in Pennsylvania, plans to retire at the end of the year.
RocktheCapital has tried every business day since last Friday to talk to Senator Mellow. On Wednesday, I traded phone calls with someone in Mellow’s office, but that is as close as we have come to hearing from Mellow. We have also tried multiple times to reach Senator Charles McIlhinney, he is the Chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee.
Mellow is not facing any criminal charges; however, the FBI and IRS are reviewing documents seized from Mellow’s home and office in Peckville over the summer.
Eric Epstein, one of the founders of RTC puts it this way, “How much is enough? Mr. Mellow received a salary, COLA, perks, pension, health care, and an automobile from the taxpayers, sat on two paying Boards, and wrote checks to himself with other peoples’ money. This type of self-enriching behavior only makes sense if Mr. Mellow is attempting to establish an insanity defense.”
Epstein brought Mellow’s conflict of interest to the Ethics Board last February.
While the Ethics Committee is putting off its investigation – - we here at RTC will keep trying to uncover the reasons behind the committee’s decision, or lack of one.
