A better way to handle the next Bonusgate

(Harrisburg, Pa) – We are experiencing a constitutional crisis — Pennsylvania is at war with itself.

Political appointees and elected officials are no longer above the law or below the radar. Because of Bonusgate, we must admit that voluntary, self policing polices regarding public service and political promotion have failed.

Perception matters.

From “cut and gut” legislation to pay raise madness to Bonusgate to the Fumo conviction to the budget debacle, this state is sorely in need of a morality transfusion.

Running out the clock is not reform, and inertia is not progress. Real tangible and statutory reform is in danger of experiencing a brief rise from obscurity and a quick descent into oblivion.

Gubernatorial candidates can either preserve the past or protect the future. But they can not do both.

Attorney General Tom Corbett should resign, and allow the Attorney General’s office to fully commit itself to aggressively prosecuting Bonusgate and other political corruption cases.

There is no justice if there is no punishment, and being timid in the prosecution of justice is not a virtue

Likewise, all candidates who have announced their intention to seek the state’s highest office should resign their public charge and set a new standard for elected offcials, including: Jim Gerlach, Jack Wagner, Dan Onorato, and Joe Hoeffel.

RockTheCapital.org (RTC) is nonpartisan voter education organization formed after the Pennsylvania legislative, judicial and executive branches conspired to enact a compensation package in violation of a state constitutional provision which bans seated lawmakers from granting themselves a pay raise.
