The Glorious & the Brave: World War II Veterans and Holocaust Survivors

Sunday, November 10 at 5:00 pm
Jewish Community Center
3301 North Front Street
Harrisburg, PA 17110

The Jewish Community will commemorate the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht, the “Night of Broken Glass” with the showing of the documentary, The Glorious & the Brave: World War II Veterans and Holocaust Survivors , followed by informal discussions which will include Holocaust survivors, liberators, students, and audience participants. Each generation will reflect upon how the experiences and lessons learned from the Holocaust have impacted their lives.

The stories of eye witnesses and participants in history come to life in this student-created film. The project took place over two years and involved more than one hundred students at Greencastle-Antrim High School where their teacher, Martina Fegan, teaches a course on Human Rights Literature.

The Glorious & the Brave chronicles the lives of two little girls caught up in Adolf Hitler’s quest to eliminate the lives of Jews throughout Europe in order to create a Jew-free society. Five WW II veterans share their experiences as America was drawn into the war against Nazi aggression.  Some of these young soldiers stumbled upon the concentration and death camps totally unprepared for what they would see.  The Glorious and the Brave reveals the courage and resilience of two of Hitler’s intended targets and the young men who fought to preserve freedom and liberate the victims of tyranny.

There is no charge for this program.  For more information, please contact the Jewish Community Center, 717-236-9555, ext. 3402 or e-mail l.rappaport@jewishfedhbg.org.
