Money and influence on Governor-elect Corbett’s transition team

Among the members of Republican Governor-elect Tom Corbett’s freshly announced transition is Christine Toretti.

Toretti, the chairman and chief executive officer of the S.W. Jack Drilling Company have donated generously to Republican candidates over the past 13 years.

Rock The Capital has discovered that from 1997 to 2009 Toretti has made campaign contributions to the tune of $576,000. That figure does not include this past election.

Torreti’s Indiana, Pennsylvania based company, and some of its employees during that same period gave $399,515 to Republican candidates.

When asked at a news conference if Ms.Toretti’s financial gifts influenced Corbett’s decision in naming her to the transition team, or for his decision not to support a shale tax, Corbett replied, “no,” and moved on to other questions.

Toretti, once married to legendary Arizona Basketball Coach Lute Olsen, has been active in politics since the mid-1990′s. She is a member of the Republican national committee.

She is credited with turning around a failing company following the tragic death of her father, and she created the Anne Anstine excellence in public service program aimed at educating and empowering women.
