Markosek steers his way to the House Appropriations Committee

If there is one subject Joe Markosek can consider himself an expert in, its transportation. Markosek has focused much of his attention on roads since first being elected to the House in 1982. It came as no surprise when he was tapped to become chairman of the House Transportation Committee. What has come as a surprise, and […]

Last Call for Overhaul

Last Call for Overhaul

What do Utah and Pennsylvania have in common besides nuclear waste and overrated college football teams? State control of liquor sales. Utah is a theocracy where moral righteousness regarding liquor consumption ends during tax collection. Utah’s booze sales of $267 million last year were funneled through 44 state stores, 100 contract stores, and 600 employees. […]

Pennsylvania’s Senate Ethics Committee has its own ethical lapse

Senator Robert Mellow is but weeks away from riding off in to the glorious sunset of retirement. Glorious as it is, at least on paper, as Pennsylvania’s longest serving Senator; he stands to receive a pension worth over $300,000 a year. However, there are troubling questions that go unanswered, a federal investigation, and now a renewed demand for […]

The Palin Paradox

The Palin Paradox

During a discussion, about the most recent elections with a group of friends I pointed out to the left leaning bunch that if they were smart they would start writing checks to Palin 2012 (in case you thought there was a reprieve, forget it – the New Hampshire Primary is less than 15 months away). After […]

Armstrong floors some of its employees before letting them go

Its one thing to lose a job, but its another to find out by reading it on a bulletin board. That is how some, if not all 62 workers at Armstrong Manor in Lancaster County learned last week that they would be out of work by early 2011. Armstrong Spokeswoman Beth Riley says it did not happen that […]

A jubilant Postmortem

In the wake, of yet another “historic” election the tendency over the next few weeks will be for pundits of all stripes to breakdown why what happened, happened, what it means, and who gets the laurels and the thorns. And frankly, I am no different. Elections tell us things about our society on a macro […]

Retire Pension Debt

Retire Pension Debt

Most voters have the political memory of a fruit fly and the attention span of a negative ad. Unfortunately, taxpayers get stuck eating the bitter fruit and paying for the misleading commercials. The pension heist of 2001 gave legislators a new retirement formula that allowed lawmakers with at least three years of service to begin drawing pensions starting at age 50. The legislature […]

What a difference 24 months makes

Two years ago I spent the night assessing the future prospects of my party, looking at what had just happened and what needed to change in order for – in, hopefully 10 years or so – the GOP to regain governing power. The first conclusion was easy: in trying to out spend the Democratic Party, […]

A hotbed of hate at Lincoln University?

Lincoln University’s tarnished image is coming under more scrutiny – now that its come to light that Abdulalim Shabazz, (pictured to the right) a former mathematics professor at Lincoln, also supports the destruction of Israel and maintains that the Holocaust is a myth. “If there is another professor, that is really troubling because then you […]

Senator Mellow is in no rush to talk

By at October 21, 2010 | 5:05 pm | 0 Comment

Mellow will retire at the end of the year, but there is another cloud hanging over the senator’s head. FBI agents and the IRS are taking a hard look at his business dealings. He spent more than $200,000 K of taxpayers money for him to rent his district office space from himself. Up until recently, Mellow owned a building that housed his district work space in Peckville.
