The head of Pennsylvania’s Liquor Control Board says if he has more time he can modernize and make state owned liquor stores a crown jewel of the state, and in Washington, Republicans intend to vote on a plan to trim $6 billion from President Obama’s proposed budget.

Rock The Capital Minute

In this edition of Rock The Capital Minute; nearly three weeks have passed since an earthquake and tsunami nearly destroyed the Fukushima Dai-ichi power plant in Japan, and problems keep multiplying. In Pennsylvania, House Speaker Sam Smith introduced a bill that would eliminate 50 members of the House. Smith believes it will go a long way toward make that legislative body more efficient.

When will President Obama see the Present

Back in 2008 I told a number of my friends that the rhetoric you heard regarding Iraq and Gitmo from their champion, the prophet of Hope and Change, was hollow. That is not to say that Candidate Obama didn’t believe he would pull out of Iraq and close Gitmo; rather, I argued that even the most strident peacenik, when faced with the consequences of releasing committed Jihadists into the Middle East or abandoning a fledgling government with a hungry wolf on its doorstep, realizes the right thing to do and that the job requires it, even against his own ideology.

Rock The Capital Minute

In this edition of Rock The Capital Minute, engineers at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant have restored electricity to much of the facility, with one notable exception, reactor two because radiation levels are spiking. The Food and Drug Administration has halted all imports of foods grown, and or produced around that plant in Japan. At first the FDA intended to step up screening proceedures. In Pennsylvania, Governor Corbett is looking for every possible way to sell the Liquor Control Board, and adminstrators at the LCB are coming up with every imaginable way to keep growing the government controlled liquor business.

Rock The Capital  Minute

In this edition of Rock The Capital Minute; workers at the Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan have been evacuated today. One of the world’s leading authorities on nuclear power drops by RTC for a show and tell on what needs to happen to bring the crisis under control. The World’s Health Organization is warning people in Japan to be very careful about what they consume. This after food sources and water in some parts of the country were found to have excessive levels of radiation. In Pennsylvania, trustees at Penn State took the unusual step of halting all construction projects. This follows Governor Corbett’s proposal to cut some 182 million dollars.
