Scientific Study Links Flammable Drinking Water to Fracking

The research was conducted by four scientists at Duke University. They found that levels of flammable methane gas in drinking water wells increased to dangerous levels when those water supplies were close to natural gas wells. They also found that the type of gas detected at high levels in the water was the same type of gas that energy companies were extracting from thousands of feet underground, strongly implying that the gas may be seeping underground through natural or manmade faults and fractures, or coming from cracks in the well structure itself.

In this edition of Rock The Capital Minute; workers at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant returned on Tuesday to find water in a fuel rod pool near boiling point. The Department of Environmental Protection in Pennsylvania has ordered the immediate shutdown of a waste water hauling company near Pittsburgh, following allegations that it has illegally been dumping contaminated gas drilling water. And today is World Water Day.

Rock The Capital Minute

In this edition of Rock The Capital Minute, radiation levels outside a Japanese nuclear power plant soared after a reactor caught fire. Over the past couple of days two reactors have exploded in the aftermath of that earthquake and tsunami. Roughly 145,000 people have been ordered to stay in their homes. In Germany, Chancellor Merkel ordered the temporary shutdown of 7 of its 17 reactors, and in Pennsylvania a committee is holding a hearing on what led to two deadly natural gas explosions since January.

Corbett Wams PA Again

Tim Pott’s has been sorting out Pennsylvania’s WAMS and the legislature’s almost $190 million dollar surplus. Pott’s simply can not reconcile either one. On one hand, Governor Corbett in public says no to the pork stuffed Wams, but then in private puts his signature to the request. And, why is Corbett not doing more to implore the legislature to give up its whopping surplus to help balance the budget?
